Tartan Properties Commercial philanthropy and community service has a long tradition focusing on education, literacy and youth sports.  For 40 years, we have been committed to being a positive influence in the communities we serve through our philanthropic efforts and volunteerism. As second generation residents of northern Virginia we feel an extra special responsibility to improve upon the community we have grown up in and now live.

In 2016, the Senior Services of Alexandria honored Mike along with his mother, Kitty Porterfield, and daughters Keely and Kirby Porterfield at the Generation-to-Generation Gala for their longstanding commitment to service in the Alexandria community. The award highlights members in the community who exemplify how the dedication and passion for giving back are passed down from generation to generation.

The focus of much of TARTAN’s giving centers around children and those less fortunate in our community. A few of the organizations that we are committed to through direct giving or volunteering are:

  • The Scholarship Fund of Alexandria
  • Alexandria Police Foundation
  • The All-Night Row for the Wounded Warrior Project
  • Bike & Build
  • Carpenters Shelter
  • Capital Hospice
  • Movember-Supporting Men’s Cancer Initiatives
  • Special Olympics
  • The Tutoring Consortium
  • Trails for Youth
  • T.C. Williams High School performing arts & athletics
  • Volunteer Alexandria
